Our thesis
Artificial intelligence offers an opportunity to align incentives in behavioral health. We believe safe clinical AI will:
-
There is a shortage of mental health clinicians. SAMSHA projects a shortage of 250,000+ mental health professionals. Over 50% of US counties do not have access to a psychiatrist. Our tools function as AI employees that let each clinician do more, reducing the hiring burden
-
As clinician time is extremely limited, in-person mental health sessions are rushed and often of varying quality. Our tools give patients the space and time to express their concerns at their own pace - and provide support for clinical interviews.
-
Clinical staff in the US are exhausted. They see too many people and do not have enough time. Our tools replace a lot of repeatable clinical work and provide intelligent insights, enabling a 3X reduction in per-patient workload.
-
We believe that existing diagnostic standards in psychiatry are outdated and suboptimal. We are bullish on the future of biomarkers, where patients are matched to treatment without trial and error. Our research portfolio makes a heavy bet on voice as the most prominent of these biomarkers.

Our Team
Dr. Edwin Wong
Edwin is co-founder and CEO. He received his PhD from King’s College London and the National University of Singapore, where he analyzed large genetic datasets to learn about the roots of mental health disorders. Prior to Psyrin, he was deeply involved with incubator programs like Nucleate UK and Entrepreneur First. Get in touch here.
Dr. Julianna Olah
Juli is co-founder and CTO. She received her PhD from King’s College London for research on artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health. Her leading work on voice biomarkers has been published in top journals & conferences. Prior to Psyrin, she started the largest digital therapy marketplace in Hungary, which has facilitated over 10,000 sessions. Get in touch here.
Dr. Raheem Chaudhry
Raheem is co-founder and COO. He completed a medical degree at King’s College London. Raheem spent time working for the largest psychiatric hospital in Europe - King’s College Hospital - before leaving to pursue Psyrin full-time. Prior to Psyrin, he worked on several innovation projects across the NHS. Get in touch here.
Aeron Laffere
Aeron is our founding engineer. He left an academic career at Oxford in theoretical and systems neuroscience to join Psyrin, motivated by his belief in technology’s capacity to accelerate progress in psychiatry. Connect with him here.
Omar Mena
Omar is our head of artificial intelligence (AI). He completed his masters degree in artificial intelligence at University College London, where he initially collaborated with Psyrin to refine our voice biomarker models. Prior to Psyrin, Omar built other projects in mental health, including a sentiment analysis tool analyzing social media for suicide risk.
