Full-time. Our team is based in San Francisco and London; however, your role can be remote with occasional travel for team retreats.
Who are we?
Psyrin is a seed startup on a mission to re-think mental health care. We are building AI to automate clinical decision making in psychiatry with objectivity and accuracy. We have a proprietary voice dataset of 30k+ minutes and in-house models that can detect several mental illnesses (e.g. ADHD, depression, schizophrenia) with 90%+ accuracy. Our long term goal is to introduce a preventive care paradigm, and we back this up with heavy investment in research to predict mental health changes and identify personalized treatments.
Our team of 5 (including 2.5 PhDs, & 1 MD) has first-hand experience of this problem space across academia and clinical practice. We are backed by top, thesis-driven investors with high conviction in our vision of mental health care.
Our products focus on two customers: government and psychiatric providers. This includes software that:
Triages individuals to the right treatment provider
Leverages vocal biomarker testing to identify mental health conditions (regulated)
Conducts asynchronous psychiatric interviews to streamline care delivery
The role
We are seeking a Design Engineer to shape the future of our psychiatric technology platforms. This role focuses on creating intuitive, accessible interfaces for mental health professionals and patients and helping us conceptually define and shape our emerging products. You will be instrumental in evolving our products and developing new solutions in the most exciting frontier of mental healthcare.
What you’ll do:
Design and implement new features across our product suite with a focus on user experience
Create intuitive, accessible interfaces that work for both healthcare providers and patients who might have limited tech literacy
Develop and maintain our design system to ensure consistency across products
Collaborate with clinicians and researchers to translate complex medical and scientific requirements into simple, usable interfaces
Prototype and iterate on new product ideas quickly
Help define our design architecture as we scale
What we’re looking for:
You should be a self-starting and high agency creative engineer, ideally with strong evidence of:
Innovative work in frontend development with contemporary web frameworks and/or native applications
An ability to write performant and maintainable code implementing design briefs. Experience with full-stack Javascript/Typescript development in Next.js (or comparable frameworks) is a bonus but not a requirement if you are willing to learn.
An ability to ship fast in a small, highly motivated team.
Planning and communicating UI changes for non-technical users who rely on easy use of our platforms in their day to day work.
Experience with designing and delivering applications under regulatory constraints. As a healthcare company we are most interested in experience with HIPAA.
Deep domain knowledge of mental healthcare, psychiatry, or related domains is valued. Demonstrable willingness and capacity to obtain this knowledge in the role is acceptable.
Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual understanding of product features, UI/UX sensibilities, and attention to detail
Understanding of accessibility standards and healthcare UI/UX best practices
Ability to build rapidly and pick up the best framework for different projects to facilitate speed
Basic understanding of predictive AI concepts, voice agents, and LLMs, particularly in user-facing applications
Understanding of requirements and needs of early-stage startups
Excellent communication skills; you must be able to explain concepts clearly and concisely to people of various expertise
You might be a good fit if:
Have a passion for creating elegant, intuitive user experiences
Love deeply and conceptually shaping products
Enjoy bridging the gap between design and engineering
Are excited about solving complex UX challenges in healthcare
Love iterating quickly and gathering user feedback
Are comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change
Think deeply about accessibility and inclusive design
Are interested in joining a rapidly growing early-stage startup and all that entails: a close-knit team, variety in day-to-day responsibilities, and challenging problems you can take full ownership of.
Want to make a real impact in mental healthcare with your design and engineering talent. You will be working to solve real clinical problems on day 1.
Are seeking an environment where engineering is evaluated by impact
Can embody our values of radical honesty, self-reflection, and intellectual excellence while building great software at scale.
What we offer:
$80k - $120k (depending on experience & location) + stock options
Standard benefits
Flexible and remote-friendly work
Quarterly company retreats
A chance to be at the bleeding edge of technological progress in mental healthcare
We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented in technology.
